Gordon Daniel Anderson, 86, of Waxhaw passed away on October 12, 2016 after a brief illness. Gordon was born in Millville, Massachusetts on July 30, 1930 to the late Ralph and Aagot Anderson. He graduated from Blackstone High School in 1947 and attended the New England Conservatory of Music on a scholarship program. Gordon studied piano for 12 years. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Melia, in November 4, 1950. Gordon worked as Production Control Manager at Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville, Massachusetts before moving to Westland, Michigan where he was a General Production Manager for both American Standard and Welduction. Upon retirement in 1987, he and Carol enjoyed 10 years in Jenson Beach Florida before finally moving to Charlotte, NC to be near their youngest daughter, Keli and her family.
Gordon enjoyed golfing, bowling and yard games but most importantly, he was an accomplished pianist. In that capacity, he brought much joy to his family, friends, neighbors and community who never tired of hearing him play. Anyone who knew Gordon in recent years could attest to his ability to remember every joke he'd ever heard. He also possessed an abundance of old stories and memories that he would be more than willing to share with one and all.
Gordon was proud of his six daughters, 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Gordon is predeceased by his brother, Ralph Anderson; sisters, Evelyn Titherington and Esther Matteson; brothers-in-law, Gerald Titherington and Milton Matteson and son-in-law William McCaffrey. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 66 years, Carol Melia Anderson; daughters, Pamela (Alan) Gordon of New Hampshire; Donna (Dave) Anderson of Michigan, Cynthia McCaffrey of Michigan, Robin Adams of Michigan, Lori (Daniel) Humphreys of Michigan and Keli (Robert) Ingersoll of North Carolina; grandchildren, David, Melissa, Jennifer, Christopher, Jaime, Jodie, Bethany, Kevin, Julie, Brian, Dana, Alex, Jonathan, Bradley and Lauren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond (Shirley) Anderson, Norman (Ruth) Anderson and Paul(Barbara) Anderson; many nieces and nephews and a host of close friends who supported and sustained Gordon and Carol throughout the years.
The family will receive friends at McEwen Pineville Chapel 10500 Park Road, Charlotte on Saturday October 15, 2016 at 1:00 pm immediately followed by a 2:00 pm Funeral Service to remember and celebrate Gordon's life.
A 4:00 pm reception will follow at the home of Keli and Robert Ingersoll.
