James Francis Harper, Sr. 76, of Concord, passed away on March 25, 2015, in the arms of his wife and surrounded by their children. He was born on March 27, 1938, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, son of the late John Harper and Delia Mary Harper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas P. Harper, John Harper and Joseph Harper.

He was a graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic High School and Villanova University where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He was an accomplished professional...

James Francis Harper, Sr. 76, of Concord, passed away on March 25, 2015, in the arms of his wife and surrounded by their children. He was born on March 27, 1938, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, son of the late John Harper and Delia Mary Harper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas P. Harper, John Harper and Joseph Harper.

He was a graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic High School and Villanova University where he earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He was an accomplished professional engineer whose work took him all around the world. He retired in 2003 from Seimens.

He was a kind, gentle man who enjoyed photography, fishing, golf, and traveling. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is, was, and always will be our best friend.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Martin Harper; his 5 children, Sheila Harper Lockard and husband, Jim; James Harper, Jr. and wife, Sheila; John Harper; Katie Harper Gainey and husband, Andy; and Maureen Harper Metzger and husband, Michael; 11 grandchildren, Mandy, Katie, Jamie, and Emily Lockard; Matthew Dowell and Victoria Harper; Jacob, Jeffrey, and Sarah Jane Gainey; and Jackson and Nicole Metzger; and 3 great grandchildren, Autumn, Kaycee, and Riley; and his brother Geoffrey Harper and wife, Debra.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 30, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
