Shirley Ann Dobbins Middleton, 84, of Fort Mill, SC passed away October 9, 2016. She was the daughter of the late James C. (Jack) Dobbins and Mary Yelton Dobbins. Mrs. Middleton was born on May 25, 1932 in Hamlet, NC and moved with her family to Charlotte at an early age. She graduated from Central High School in 1950 and attended Coker College in Hartsville, SC. After working several years she met and married Herbert Middleton in 1956. Shirley Ann Dobbins Middleton, 84, of Fort Mill, SC passed away October 9, 2016. She was the daughter of the late James C. (Jack) Dobbins and Mary Yelton Dobbins. Mrs. Middleton was born on May 25, 1932 in Hamlet, NC and moved with her family to Charlotte at an early age. She graduated from Central High School in 1950 and attended Coker College in Hartsville, SC. After working several years she met and married Herbert Middleton in 1956. They celebrated 59 years together. She and Herbert enjoyed travelling through the years and spending time at the beach and mountains. Mrs. Middleton loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed lunches and reunions with her 1950 classmates from Central High School. She was a faithful member of Sharon Presbyterian Church for many years. She especially enjoyed the years she worked in the FAITH group of the church.
Mrs. Middleton was preceded in death by her loving husband Herbert; her parents; infant sister, Ruth; grandson, Austin Davis Grey; brother-in-law, Edwin Lee Middleton and sisters-in-law Joan Watson Middleton and Shirley Robinson Middleton.
She is survived by her three children; Carol Middleton Palmgren and her husband Tom, of Charlotte; Michael Davis Middleton and his wife Heather of Fort Mill and Lynn Middleton Cole and her husband Tim of Fort Mill; her grandchildren, Ian Middleton Smith, Zachary James Grey, Nathan Thomas Grey and Ashley Rene Middleton; and step-grandchildren, Brooke Cole, William Cole, Erik Palmgren, Philip Palmgren, Karl Palmgren and nephews Kevin Middleton and Jeff Middleton.
A memorial service will be held at Sharon Presbyterian Church on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm immediately followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive guests after the service at the church.
