CHARLOTTE - Shirley Ann Carroll Wright entered her heavenly home on March 31, 2015. A Charlotte native, she was born February 16, 1929, the 10th of 11 children of Sallie Yorke and Lewis Richard Carroll, and was the last remaining member of her family.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by eight sisters, Margaret Gamble, Helen Gamble, Dolly Carroll, Virginia Spangler, Catherine Ham, Jean Clark, Evelyn Sims, Frances Goforth and two brothers, Richard and James Carroll.

CHARLOTTE - Shirley Ann Carroll Wright entered her heavenly home on March 31, 2015. A Charlotte native, she was born February 16, 1929, the 10th of 11 children of Sallie Yorke and Lewis Richard Carroll, and was the last remaining member of her family.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by eight sisters, Margaret Gamble, Helen Gamble, Dolly Carroll, Virginia Spangler, Catherine Ham, Jean Clark, Evelyn Sims, Frances Goforth and two brothers, Richard and James Carroll.

Shirley was a 1947 graduate of old Central High School. She retired from Celanese Corporation, returning to work after her sons were in school. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for many years while her sons were in scouts. She was a long time member of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church where she served as Elder and a teacher in the Anne Coker Sunday School class.

She was an avid reader, enjoyed needlework and creating many beautiful heirlooms for her family. Her long standing Monday bridge group was very special to her but her main love was spending time with her family.

Shirley is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Hollis Andrew Wright, Sr, their four sons and their wives, Andrew Hollis and Cecelia, Gregory York and Julie, Jeffrey Carroll and Wanda, Steven Cameron and Elizabeth; eight grandchildren, Jesse Hollis and wife Abby, Matthew Davis and wife Lauren, Kristen Holly, Caroline Marie, Zachary Cameron, Margaret Carroll, Connor Steven and Vance Edward; four great grandchildren, Alexander Hollis, Emily Beth, Piper Laine and Brody Hollis. Her extended family includes many special nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.

The funeral will be held Friday, April 3, at 11:00 am at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, 15000 York Rd, Charlotte, NC 28278. Reverend Bob Jack will conduct the service. Visitation will be at 10:00 am at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery followed by refreshments in the church dining room. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Narthex.
