Wilfred Hale Vance, 87, of Charlotte, NC passed away Monday, November 28, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center Pineville. He was born August 10, 1929 in Mamers, North Carolina and grew up in Apex, North Carolina. He was a 1948 graduate of Apex High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He was a 1958 graduate of East Carolina College in Greenville, North Carolina.

Mr. Vance served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, completing a world tour on the USS Wasp CV-18. He has been a member of Calvary Church since 1979....

Wilfred Hale Vance, 87, of Charlotte, NC passed away Monday, November 28, 2016 at Carolinas Medical Center Pineville. He was born August 10, 1929 in Mamers, North Carolina and grew up in Apex, North Carolina. He was a 1948 graduate of Apex High School where he lettered in football and baseball. He was a 1958 graduate of East Carolina College in Greenville, North Carolina.

Mr. Vance served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, completing a world tour on the USS Wasp CV-18. He has been a member of Calvary Church since 1979.

After settling in Charlotte in 1972, Mr. Vance's entrepreneurial spirit led him on several successful business ventures. All who knew him were always happy to see him. After "retiring" in 2006, he continued to meddle in the business and enjoy family, grandchildren and "landscaping" otherwise known as yard work.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Cathryn Hay Vance; his father and mother, Raeford Lee Vance and Thelma Thomas Vance; step-mother Ernestine Cox Vance; sister Delores V. Babb; brothers Warren E. Vance and Larry L. Vance.

Survivors are his daughters Elizabeth Vance Whitley, Jane C. Vance, son Keith T. Vance and wife Jill, all of Charlotte; sister Yvonne V. Kelly and husband Donald Ray of Summerville, South Carolina; brother Ronald E. Vance and wife Darcelle of Wilson, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Megan Whitley Scribner and husband Noah of Vilseck, Germany; Rachel Whitley Broome and husband Scott of Denver, North Carolina; Holden C. Vance and Beckett C. Vance of Charlotte and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Memory Center Charlotte, The Ivey, Wellmore of Tega Cay and Carolinas Medical Center Pineville for the loving and compassionate care of our father.

Graveside service will be Monday December 5th at 1:00 pm in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery at Calvary Church, 5801 Pineville Matthews Rd, Charlotte, NC.
